And what do you do when you have these delicate stones in your precious metal gold filled or silver jewelry? How do you treat your intricate wire work jewelry? or do the cleaning pearl jobs?
Ionic jewelry cleaner is the solution for cleaning pearl and other precious stones.
How does it work? After the cleaning solution is added, in the machine, you attach the piece of gold or silver jewelry to a clip in the machine and immerse it in the solution. Then you push a button and the cleaner starts its magic.
Silver takes about 5 seconds and gold takes about 30 seconds. After cleaning, the items should be rinsed with water and thoroughly dried. It really makes a big difference.. The best thing is: that it's safe for crystal beads. Though it does not recommended for cleaning pearl jewelry, some say that they have even cleaned a few jewelry that had pearls on them, and since it was in there for just a few seconds, the pearls were fine and the silver wire that connected them was shiny and bright again.
Limitations?
1.One piece at a time:
The biggest limitation is that it recommends you clean one piece at a time, and that is true. Otherwise, you'll have to run it through the cleaner a few times, so it's just easier to do one piece at a time.
2.Also, this is a cleaner. It cleans. It is not a polisher. This may seem obvious, but I thought it was important to note.
3.The only other limitation I could think of was the price. It is a little pricey, but if you make or wear a good deal of silver jewelry, it's more than worth the price. In fact, I think it would be a nice item to give or receive as a gift. Just an idea!
Ionic cleaners work wonder with harder precious stones like amethyst, diamond, cubic zirconia, some rubies, sapphire and tanzanite. But the American Gem Trade Association recommends taking the softer precious and semi precious stones to the jewelers who expertize on inspecting, cleaning and polishing professionally and thoroughly.
International Colored Gemstone Association says that clean organic gemstones like amber, coral, and pearls by wiping them with soft cloth every time you wear them to remove dirt and body oil. precautions should be taken for protecting and cleaning pearl and other delicate gemstone jewelry.
Protect opaque stones like opals, jade, turquoise and malachite by just wiping with a moist cloth after each wear.
Pearls
Always wear jewelry at the very end after hair do and make up. Hair spray and perfumes can damage the pearls and soft delicate stones. Similarly take them off before you apply hand lotions.
Wipe pearls with soft damp cloth. Allow to dry. Protect in individual cloth pouch or cotton lined box not in an air tight plastic bag.
Pearls are organic, natural things to start with. They love moisture. You may clean them with mild soap and water. Or use special solution for pearl and delicate stones.
They should not be put in ultra sonic cleaner or be polished with abrasive cloth cautions the International Colored Gemstone Association, (even though other experts say pearls can be cleaned in the ultra sonic for very very short time.)
The drill holes of the pearl jewelry, where the silk thread runs through the pearls, is where the impurities collect. This build up, erode the pearls and eventually cause irreversible damage. The only solution is to restring the pearls with new silk periodically.
