The jewelry making instruction for a basic one strand necklace

Here you'll find the jewelry making instruction for a very basic one strand necklace

I used my bead board and lay out the beads in a pattern of:

3 copper 6mm czech glass beads

1 spacer bead

1 quartz 6mm czech glass bead

1 spacer bead

1 wine color 4mm czech glass bicone bead

1 spacer bead

and so on 9 times to get a length of 16" finished size

Basic jewelry making tools You may change this jewelry making instruction or the pattern and improvise your own design with the beads that you already have. To see other variation of this one strand necklace design

Once I am happy with my pattern lay out I cut 24" of Beadalon wire or Acculon (these are different brands of beading wire) (.018 -7 strand) for a 16" finished length.

I attach one part of a toggle clasp with one end of the wire making a loop and then string 3 crimp beads.

I use my chain nose pliers to crimp the very first bead pulling the short end of the wire making sure it is tight and then crimp the third bead for extra protection.

The four basic tools for jewelry making The chain nose pliers works fine for crimping especially when you are limited with the very basic tools. The following book will show the basic operations of jewelry making like crimping a bead and other things.

You may also want to check out the video tutorial by Tammy Powley in about.com - how to close a crimp.

String the rest of the beads from the pattern and finish it off with 3 crimp beads and the toggle clasp component. Make sure to crimp the first and third crimp beads tight and snug pulling the short end of the string so that the beads hang nicely. Insert the short end through the large holes of the beads in this case , or cut the end with wire cutter.
