Want to oxidize your silver jewelry naturally? Here is a home made way to do it.Of course using the liver of sulfur is always there to bring antique patina on your silver jewelry, but here is an easy solution if you don't want the chemical procedure and the horrible smell.
HOME MADE WAY
Boil an egg. Take a zip loc bag (or plastic/glass container) that can be made air tight.
Peel the egg. Break into small pieces while it is still warm. Put it in the zip loc bag with the silver piece you want to oxidize.
Wait about 15 to 20 minutes. Then shake the bag so that the silver piece may move and get in touch with the egg yoke particles and all the surface of the silver jewelry get a chance to be oxidized uniformly.
Take it out when you see the desired result of patina on the silver. Wash it thoroughly under running water and pat dry.
It may take longer than the liver of sulfur method. If you want darker patina and find that your egg mixture has gone cold, you may warm it up in the micro wave for a little while, of course taking out the silver piece before sticking the bag into the micro wave. Follow the procedure again.
I like the egg method for oxidizing silver organically much better than the chemical liver of sulfur method. It is cheaper, less stinky and most of all - natural.
